We want to change the way the Education System addresses the intelligence of a student and how they are 'labelled'. Currently, this is through tests which are taken after the completion of a topic. Students are then marked based on how much they 'learnt' from the topic and based on an average of student scores. But we think this is wrong. We think that we should not use tests to mark and label students. Tests are seeing how much of a topic you have remembered and not how much you have learnt or how well you can apply the skills being taught. Albert Einstein once said, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish based on its ability to climb a tree then it'll spend its whole life thinking it's stupid." This is what our education system is like and it does have this effect on students. Marks on tests can lead to anxiety, depression and being judged by other students. Not to mention that students take tests in already stressful environments which for many means they do worse then they know they are capable. We're not saying get rid of tests completely. We're just saying that tests should be used to see where a student is at in a subject so that the teacher can evaluate how much a student has learned not memorised. Then students are graded on their application of skills and tasks done in class. This is a much more effective way for teachers to see if students are able to understand what is being taught and are absorbing the information being provided. This can lead to slight changes in teaching methods for students who aren't understanding or learning as well in their current environment or with the current method of teaching. So we want the education to change for the benefit of the students.
