Bring Back The Old Middle School

Bring Back The Old Middle School
Why this petition matters

A building that has served as a high school, middle school, and for a short time housed kindergarten and first grade students while the Rockport Elementary School was under renovation, has become no more than the memories of the many students who filled its classrooms, halls, gymnasium, cafeteria and mini-theater, their families who volunteered there or watched their children's sports games and the many teachers, administrators and staff who worked there over the decades.
The "new" middle school will now bring students in grades 5 to 8 into one mid-century modern and energy-deficient building. The Mary E. Taylor building stands alone once again. But it doesn't have to end like this.
Now no longer under construction due to its completion is the new playground, which promises to be a life threatening, unoriginal prison ground for students. Major landscaping elements and the equipment are in place. A two-story time cube, a spike wall and uninspiring flinging and flailing equipment have been installed.
We are calling on a community that has always had each other's backs, through thin and thick. Sign your name to get behind the movement, together we can make this happen.
