More Recess for Lynchburg City Schools

Extensive research supports that physical activity improves health, happiness, and academic performance. The CDC recommends at least 60 minutes a day of physical activity for children, but Lynchburg City Elementary Schools typically provide only one 30 minute recess. But this can change! The General Assembly of Virginia just passed Act H 1419 into law, which was signed by the Governor and is effective July 1st, 2018. This law allows schools to provide up to 60 minutes a day of recess, but the decision to move from one 30 minute recess per day to two 30 minute recesses per day is up to the local school board. Please sign this petition to encourage the Lynchburg City School Board to require two 30 minute recesses per day for Lynchburg City Elementary Schools starting at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. Help our community's children reach their potential!
