N May started this petition to The Lord Mayor of Darwin: Kon Vatskalis JP

Darwin is a vibrant city, emerging into the current century while making amends for past injustices.  All Australians know about the terrible crimes committed against our Aboriginal brothers and in the past several years, great steps towards reconciliation has been made.

However, one of Darwin’s prime streets, Foelsche Street, is named after Paul Foelsche, who has been described as “the man who masterminded more massacres in the Territory than anyone else … he was cunning, devious and merciless with Aboriginals”.  Paul Foelsche - Controversial Man

To truly move forward in the spirit of reconciliation, I am petitioning for you to rename Foelsche street to instead acknowledge an indigenous Australian who worked as a bridge between the new settlers and the original inhabitants.  Burigon, an Awabakal elder (from the Hunter region) was well-liked by both communities and had a reputation for creating peace.  Burigon, Chief of the Newcastle Tribe (1820)

I urge you to rename Foelsche Street to Burigon Street.
