Tommy-Lee Purdy started this petition to The legislative assembly of Ontario

With an increase of attacks against children and women in recent years, people are coming together to protect their families and communities from sexual predators, however, the identities and residencies of registered sex offenders in Ontario (OSOR), and more alarmingly, repeat sex offenders, remains confidential to the public at large.

The government of Ontario website displays this policy, in regards to keeping the Ontario Sex Offenders Registry from the public: “The public does not have access to the OSOR. This contributes to a consistently high offender compliance rate resulting in increased accuracy and integrity of the data on the registry. This enhances public safety for Ontarians by providing police with the ability to have more accurate information about registered sex offenders.”

Why should compliance be optional/self regulated by convicted offenders and repeat offenders rather than maintained and enforced by the government of Ontario? There is no need to rely on compliance when it is enforced and updated by the justice system.

The people of Ontario want to know what threats to their children may reside in their communities and have the right to know if there is a repeat sexual offender living around the block.
