Dominic Lander started this petition to The Kettering City School District.

GoGuardian was added to Chromebooks without the consent of parents or students. It is an administrative decision however parents should have a say in it. Madi Mcgirr says "If I was still in high school, I’d protest this policy. Students should have a right to some privacy within the school. We paid money each year to even have the Chromebook in the first place so it’s not even like the school generously gave it to us. It’s a requirement to have, meaning all students are forced to agree to this surveillance.
They should let the students opt out of getting the Chromebook in the first place to avoid the issue of their privacy being invaded. If students can’t opt out then it’s literally just forcing kids to give up their personal freedoms." Parents do pay money for the Chromebooks that are given to us students. So they should have a say or at least be let known about what is be added or replaced on our devices. In Glens falls there was a reported case on a teacher ridiculing a student that was home sick by displaying her screen from home up on a SmartBoard. It was seen by the entire class. The father of this girl called it an invasion of privacy. " “When they are able to come into my household and see what I’m doing at home, that really bothered me,” he said" (Goot 1)". The website guidelines state that Go Guardian should only be used during school hours however, it can be used whenever chosen to. Using an honor system for a software that is used to see everything that a student is doing on their Chromebook isn't safe.
