The US President and the Haitian Prime Minister's photographs at the 9th Summit of the Americas 2022 offend the Haitian people because Mr. Henry is accused of assassinating President Jovenel Moise. That is the last thing we could hope to see in the eleventh month since the assassination of President Moise on July 7, 2021. At the time of this photo, the country was under siege by gangs murdering and looting its residents.

Since Mr. Henri arrived in power after ex-President Jovenel Moise was murdered, the grip of state gangs on Haiti has been growing. Thus, from the end of April, clashes between rival clans have been fierce in the communes of Croix-des-Bouquets, Tabarre, and Cité Soleil, in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. According to the United Nations, 75 people have been killed and 68 injured in a dozen days, saying they are "deeply concerned by the rapid deterioration of the situation."

During this summit, seeing that the red carpet has been rolled out under the feet of PM Henri instead of asking him to go and answer the questions of justice constitutes an insult to Haiti and democracy. Encouraging impunity is a threat to the region. For example, in the Dominican Republic, the Minister of the Environment was assassinated in his office last week. Because we mishandled the case of President Jovenel Moise, a transnational crime, we can expect a wave of serial political crimes.
