Hello, and thank you to all who chose to read this. I'm writing this petition in  regards to Florida's harsh sentencing and the Injustice people face when being accused, tried, and ultimately convicted. 

   My name is Tasheem Davis, I'm 31 years old and I'm currently incarcerated in Florida's prison system. I was charged with robbery with a firearm and burglary of a conveyance with a firearm. In Florida, these charges both have minimum mandatory sentence requirements once you're convicted. The robbery charge is 10 min. man. and the burglary charge carries 3 min. man. In my case, there was no injury or harm done to anybody and the property/monetary loss was under $1,000. I was convicted and sentenced to 20 years with 13 mandatory, meaning 13 years without any gain/good time. Now, before i get into what my issue is i ant to let it be known that the pre-trial plea offer was 10 yrs. Mandatory which i rejected because i wanted to exercise my right to a fair and impartial trial, which I did not receive. A new ruling was later decided in the supreme court which reduced my sentence to 15 yrs. 10 mandatory. 

Now, my issue with all of this is the fact that nothing else was considered when i was sentenced. For example, at the time i was being sentenced i was a first time offender with no prior history. I earned my highschool diploma and was on spring break from Tallahassee community college at the time i was charged. Once i was released on bail i enrolled in palm beach state college and paid for the classes out of my own pocket. I also worked at 3 different establishments while on bail and up until incarceration. That's just a small summary of who I am and what I was doing with my life. So my question to you is "Do you believe that 15 or 20 years was a just sentence, and with what I told you about the whole situation and my life, do you believe that the 7 years I've been incarcerated is enough for punishment and rehabilitation?". The only ones that can change this is the government and we are the only ones that can make that happen but i cant do it alone. I need u to be my voice, be my light in such a dark place. The purpose of this petition isn't even about me, its about my Daughter who is only 7 yrs. old and has missed all these years without me. I don't plan on letting her miss any more. If there's something that can be done to get me closer to my daughter then I'm going to go out of my way to try to accomplish it. 

So, once again i challenge you to be courageous and carry my cry for help to all ears willing to listen. Something has to give!!! Its not "Justice" it "Just is". Wat are we going to do to change it?
