Brian Webster started this petition to The Horticultural Trades Association

As a community garden founder and secretary, as well as amateur gardener, I don't want to see garden centres close due to COVID-19.

Unfortunately, this might be the case and if the UK Government don't offer them a rescue package, this might mean hundreds of thousands fo plants being wasted and or destroyed.

The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) have announced several millions of plants will be wasted and possibly destroyed due to COVID-19. They said:

"Due to the plunge in demand following the UK shut down, the value of lost plant sales in the UK will be £687 million by the end of June and if it continues £1.2 billion by the end of December"

If in the event the government does not offer a rescue package for the Horticultural industry, then it is my goal to have plants, flowers and vegetables donated to community growing projects and initiatives in the UK. The UK Governments restrictions suggest people should be getting exercise each day, and members from community growing projects and initiatives can plant these is their sites, taking it in turns to go out to adhere to the social distancing and not forming groups rules.

If this is not possible, these should surely be sent for composting rather than to landfill.
