The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to attention of the House - EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR AN EDUCATIONAL NATURE RESERVE.
The land between Kunda Park and Forest Glen alongside Maroochydore Rd and bordering Eudlo Creek is currently under appeal for use as sand mine/extractive industry after Council Refusal MCU in October 2016.
Should the land become available, proposal would be to re-vegetate site as close as possible to original state, to be used as Educational Nature Reserve for all people to study flora/fauna in natural settings.
Centrally located, enabling day trips for Environmental studies, and easily accessible by all schools.
Abundant wildlife; Platypus, some unique to floodplains areas: Endangered native water mouse, Wallum Froglet, mapped as living in this area, and under Nation Recover plans.
Linking land with surrounding conservation areas promotes, protects, extends habitats of rare, endangered and near threatened species, increasing long term biodiversity of area, protecting Eudlo Creek, Maroochy River and declared fish habitat, whilst providing a valuable learning resource for future generations of the Sunshine Coast.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to recognise there is an OVERRIDING PUBLIC INTEREST for alternative use of land and REFUSE THE APPLICATION for amendment to State Planning Policy for approval of Key Resource Area 162 Eudlo Creek.
Principal Petitioner: Sharon Grant, 47 Malones Rd, Kiels Mountain, Qld, 4559.
