Postal outlet services returned to the Illawong/ Alfords Point area

This petition of the residents of Illawong and Alfords Point in NSW draws to the attention of the House:
The request of the community to have a post office outlet reinstated in the Illawong / Alfords Point area. There were over 10,500 people residing in the area at the time of the 2011 census. 13% of these residents are aged over 70. This means that there is a significant portion of the population who are less likely to be able to easily travel far from their residence. The area has been without a post office outlet since the licensee closed and we understand that person still holds the licence. The closest Australia Post outlet is located in Menai Marketplace, just over 5 km away.
We therefore ask the House to require Australia Post to offer a licence for post office outlet services to a local business within the Illawong and Alfords Point area as a matter of urgency. The lack of a local Australia Post outlet is having a detrimental effect on local residents and businesses.
