Bridgit O'Brien started this petition to The Honourable Stephen McNeil and

On April 3, 2020, Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil told all residents of Nova Scotia to "Stay the blazes home" because "tens of thousands of people will die unless public health protocols are followed." You can watch the announcement here: https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1934099

This inspired music, memes, and clothing as the announcement itself became a part of our current culture, a part of our mutual bond as Nova Scotians. https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/n-s-premier-s-stay-the-blazes-home-inspires-viral-songs-memes-clothes-1.4884584

Yesterday, July 2, 2020, the same Premier McNeil told the CBC that US plates wouldn't be stopped at the border. Well, what happened to stay the blazes home? What happened, more importantly, to "tens of thousands ... will die unless public health protocols are followed"? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/covid-19-tourism-travel-borders-americans-1.5635512

We know that the United States are not following public health protocols. We know that of the half-a-million recorded deaths caused by COVID-19, fully a quarter of them have occurred in the United States. And we know that even in states that have decent public health protocols in place, certain members of the population have refused to abide by them. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Why should the government of Nova Scotia allow US license plates into the province when they just opened the border to New Brunswick on July 3? Atlantic Canada is now its own bubble, and that's because we have some of the best numbers in the country. And why is that? Because we stayed the blazes home! We're not open to Quebec; we're not open to Ontario. Yet, people living in the United States get a free pass to enter?

I say this is unacceptable. I say this smacks of hypocrisy and toadying, bending a knee to wealthy property owners despite the best interests of the people of the province who have been dutifully obeying public health protocols for months.

Join me in in registering displeasure with Premier McNeil and the government of Nova Scotia. Help keep Nova Scotia's curve flat by keeping the border to the US firmly closed until they start following common sense public health protocols.
