Hold the Victoria by-election without delay

A municipal by-election for one Councillor was scheduled for April 4. The position became vacant when Laurel Collins resigned from Victoria City Council in November 2019 following her election to the House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Victoria.

On March 18, 2020, to protect residents from the current threat of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, cancelled Victoria's April 4 by-election.

The coronovirus situation is significantly under control on Vancouver Island and we therefore demand that the by-election now be scheduled to occur without delay.

The current City Council continues to use their office as a platform to promote their own agenda and refuses to govern in the best interests of residential and business taxpayers and renters.  The latest in a long list of examples is the complete disregard for a petition signed by over 14,000 Victorians who demanded that Beacon Hill Park be returned to its intended use. Citizens of Victoria must be given the opportunity to vote either for another Councillor of the same ilk or one who will stand up for the interests of the taxpayers and help to give us back our city.
