Joe Volpe started this petition to The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez

In May of 2017, the CRTC issued a call for proposals from interested citizens for a multilingual, multiethnic television station. It had expressed unhappiness with the way that Rogers/Omni had managed their station and the product they aired.

Rogers had in fact cancelled multilingual newscasts. The CRTC identified an urgent need for national news and current affairs programming - from a Canadian perspective – as well as ethnocultural programming. It offered a “must carry” designation and additional subscriber fees for the successful candidate.

Without explanation, the CRTC restored the license to Rogers, reducing the conditions of licence to those existing in 2015 when Rogers walked away from its commitment to multilingual multiethnic communities.

At least four applicants have petitioned Cabinet to reverse that decision.
