The Hon Peter Dutton MP
We, the undersigned, would like to raise our concerns (and seek action) about the closure of Visa Office of Australian embassy in Tehran and its adverse consequences on the Iranian community in Australia so far.
Visa subclass 600 (Family visit stream) has always provided parents of eligible Australian citizens/permanent residents (of Iranian origin) with 3 to 5 year multiple entry visas with maximum 12-month stay upon each entry (visa condition 8558). Since 19thJune 2018, most visa applications with above criteria have only been granted three, six or twelve month visas with a maximum 3-month stay upon each visit. Consultation with various Immigration agents confirmed that there has been no change of policy in aforementioned visa stream and other communities of immigrants are still enjoying the benefits that 3 to 5 year visas bring to their families. We strongly believe the automatic allocation of tourist visa cases to neighbouring countries of Iran has resulted in such subjective (and political) decisions being made.
As a proud Australian, I feel this beloved country we all call home has always inspired us with her great cultural values, the most significant of which being ‘Family’. Limiting our parents’ visits to three months inherently reduces the frequency of such visits due to financial, health and age constraints. Furthermore, chances of different family generations getting to know one another will be reduced considerably over time.
We hereby seek your kind consideration and action to rectify such crucial and delicate matter for the Iranian community and enable our parents to visit and stay with us for the entire duration of their visa on a multiple entry not a maximum of 3 months.
Yours sincerely,

The undersigned
