Agreed, and regardless of where you are from. The same applies to other nationalities and it's unfair. I lived, studied, graduated and worked in Australia for 6 years. Some of my family members are citizens and I consider Australia my home. And yet, because I held a WHV for 1 year out of the 6 I will get taxed the 65% on the entirety of my super...

This shouldn't just be for the UK! Being from Canada, this should be changed for EVERYONE.

Did you know it's actually more like 80%? Every "before tax" amount is subjected to a "contribution tax" of 15% (https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/super/growing-your-super/adding-to-your-super/tax-on-contributions/#:~:text=The%20super%20contributions%20you%20make,made%20to%20your%20super%20fund).

This means by the time we withdraw our money, it's now 80% that has been deducted from our retirement fund. This retirement fund, which was created to help build up and save for people's retirement, is stripping foreigners of theirs.

This ridiculous tax is "blanketed" on the entire superannuation as well. Despite being a WHM visa for 1 year back in 2012 where I then transitioned to a temporary/permanent residency visa (which is now expired) for 3-4 years, every single cent of my superannuation is now covered under the 65% tax rate.

Foreigners are treated like cheap labour with us FORCED to put our contributions into the super as it's compulsory so they can tax us more and it goes back into their government instead of our retirement in our own countries.

I have been subject to this exorbitant tax and agree that it's not fair! You lose more than half of your super fund!

I’m a British citizen living and working in Australia for the last 4 years, now sponsored for the last 3 years. I think it’s disgusting that Australian government taxes us 65% if we want to leave the country for good!
Now onto the fact that they won’t let anyone who’s a sponsored visa holder access their super if we loose our jobs due to civic-19! Fuck you australian government, ATO and Scott Morrison you robbing bastards!

I feel losing 65% of my pension balance, should I choose to relocate back to the UK, is very unfair. Having spent years contributing and building up my super in Australia this tax would mean I lose years of payments I cannot get back. As I have totally relocated to Australia I have only been able to pay into my super here so I’m not contributing to my UK pension meaning I would be behind a number of years there also. With this being something I will later rely on in my old age it is quite concerning. I feel having the ability to transfer the amount would be fair, as other systems like that are in place for other countries. I’m surprised given the history and connections between the UK and Australia something like this isn’t already in place.
