There have many people stating that the local residents and neighbors of the Kroger located at the corner of Secor and Monroe are against the move and update to proposed location across the street. This is simply not true. There are many of us in these neighborhoods that are in wholehearted support of this proposal, including the Sisters of Notre Dame. The excuses given against it are nonsense. Traffic issues have always been an issue there and Kroger plan of right turn only access to their new store is a safe, easy way to access the store. Take Perrysburg's route 20 right turn only access they have developed. Much smarter, safer and smoother traffic there now. Green space being destroyed? Kroger has proposed a plan to preserve as much green space as possible, but again this area is a retail hub, not a place where people will flock to live or go to the park. We have wonderful Metroparks for that. Using the Anderson's space once they vacate is not feasible for Kroger or for the local neighborhoods. Traffic is even more congested at that location and it is a longer drive for many of us. The thought the corner they are vacating will remain vacant for long is ludicrous. The Monroe Street corridor is one of the hottest real estate markets in town, and with the correct marketing should sell quickly.
We need a updated Kroger with a safe parking lot with plentiful spots for all. Kroger has been an excellent contributor to the Toledo area, sponsoring many local events, charities and school events. To continue to freeze them out could me a significant loss of that support.
It is time for those of you that support the new Kroger to speak up! Say YES and let your voice be heard!
