The dogs in Nagaland, India face a horrific fate, similar to that of the dogs of China, South Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and other dog-meat consuming countries in Asia.

Estimates as to how many dogs are consumed by the Naga people vary from 30,000 to double; possibly more annually. Some of the dogs are local strays, rural dogs, pet dogs, and dogs  who are smuggled into Nagaland from other States, especially Guwahati, Assam, Manipur and other contiguous Naga people/land in North Eastern India. The dog meat trade of Nagaland, is conducted in a similar manner as the one bringing dogs to China from Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, and from China to South Korea.  Petty thieves steal pet dogs, nab free roaming street dogs, pick up dogs from rural areas and and sell them to the dog traders (smugglers) who then transport them to other locales where they are sold at inflated prices to locals who slaughter the dogs. The dog-meat is sold to or at the local dog-meat market.  One of the markets is the tribal Keeda (Insect) market where dog meat is sold openly in its most basic limbed form. The Keeda market is located in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland and the seat of the state government.

Just recently, the Humane Society International (HSI) released a video and a report documenting the torture and barbaric killing of dogs in Kohima and Dimapur, Nagaland. The dogs are thrown into sacks, bound and muzzled. From this moment, their fate is sealed. This cruelty is on par with Yulin, China, South Korea and the other nations involved in this national and international criminal, cruel, gray/black market dog-meat trade.

HSI (Humane Society International) has made available a petition to Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang.  I have added five more influential individuals to this petition urging the Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang to finalize the  ban on dog-meat, implement and enforce it to its highest degree.  Nagaland has special rights  under the  constitution of India, allowing it the liberty to keep its tribal councils and its tribal way of life.  However, T.R.Zeliang has the legal backing and authority to enforce the ban, regardless of the opposition by the people.

The people of Nagaland who eat dogs say they don't torture the dogs but this Humane Society undercover film tells a different story. The dogs are hacked and chopped up alive, still in their sacks and in front of each other!
