Australia should be leading in design and construction for accessibility and not be the laggard it is.

I'm 51 years old and never yet lived in a home with truly appropriate access for my disability. They are too hard to find/ unaffordable.

Mass subdivision of land means smaller homes on smaller blocks of land. The economic benefits to a select few are at a massive expense for a minority population. This is not fair and accessibility needs to be central to all building design, for social inclusion to be fully possible.

Right now, nearly three-quarters of Australians with mobility impairment live in housing that does not meet their needs.
Many people with a disability say poor housing design means they cannot visit friends and family.
In some cases, housing quality is so low that people are unable to leave the house at all.
“We are no longer stuck in institutions, but we are stuck at home because of poor design”
