I'm an essential worker now in 14 day quarantine due to work related contact with a (then undiagnosed) positive covid case. I am in my 60's but can't retire as I am not eligible for the age pension for another 4 years. Not an enviable position.

All good as long as by "essential workers" we don't have all the me too I'm essential crew putting themselves ahead of the actual sick and vulnerable.

I'm talking to you bottleshop retail staff, every tradie who thinks the world will stop without them doing cashies not to mention a whole bunch of public servants that "worked at home" doing "online training" while many of us lost our jobs.

With every announcement about a vaccine, there is the accompanying lip service of ensuring that health and aged care workers, the vulnerable and the aged will be prioritized. I will only be reassured about this when we know that the planning has been done and there is community education about the order in which things will happen.
