We believe in Australia as a multi cultural society and along with celebrating our first peoples we also celebrate immigrants from many countries and many cultures, all of whom have helped make this nation what it is today. Our greatest achievements have been made through the sharing of mutual respect, and by coming together in a way that celebrates diversity instead of insisting upon uniformity. The banner photo on the Fred Nile - Official Christian Democratic Party Facebook page, showing a woman's face painted with the Australian flag and bearing the words: "The only face covering that is acceptable in Australia" is an intolerable assault upon the life-giving diversity of our nation. Not only is it a bigoted attack on women who, for reasons of cultural or religious practice, choose to wear various forms of head-covering, the underlying message is discriminatory and hateful in the narrow, “nationalistic” sense that promotes xenophobia and insists on a racially, culturally, and religiously constrained definition of “Australian”. We call on all Australians, whether claiming religious beliefs or not, to demonstrate the spirit of love of neighbour, and reject this attempt to impose upon our society, and on the Christian faith, this hate-filled message of intolerance and bigotry. We demand that the Fred Nile/Christian Democratic Party either remove this distasteful banner photo (and publish an apology for having used it), or else remove the word "Christian" from their Party’s name.
The Facebook page is labelled “Fred Nile - Official Christian Democratic Party - Official Government”.
