Healthy Rivers Dubbo Group started this petition to Hon. Adam Marshall MP and

Native fish numbers in the Murray Darling Basin have declined by 90% since colonisation. Obstruction to fish passage is one of the main reasons why.

WaterNSW has had a legal requirement to build ELEVEN fishway projects in NSW to offset dam safety upgrades for almost a decade. No more delays!

Native fish have evolved for tens of millions of years in free flowing and connected rivers - being masters at covering enormous distances. They must move up and down rivers and in and out of wetlands to grow, feed and breed.

Iconic species like the vulnerable and endangered Murray Cod and Silver Perch are doing tough in the mismanaged waterways of the Northern Darling/Baaka Basin, with recent summers of massive fish kills. The lack of fishways leave fish trapped with no escape.

As WaterNSW and the NSW Government continue to drag their feet and allow delays, native fish continue to bang their heads on a wall.

There has already been significant public money invested in the design of these fishways, and the longer the delay, the more expensive they will be.

No more delays! - WaterNSW have a legal obligation to build eleven fishway projects in NSW - they must be constructed as soon as possible.
