Journalism desperately needs to be reformed before it dies.
As someone who is disabled and autistic, I have over the past few years begun to feel more alienated by the press. I do not believe that journalists take seriously their obligation to keep vulnerable populations safe. Something has to change.

The Crimson argues calling ICE for comment is the most ethical path. I ask them to weigh relative impacts of being able to include a boilerplate response from a government agency in their article versus the very real possibility of undocumented students getting deported and the impact of silencing their voices and experiences from campus debate. I ask the Crimson to consider the ethics of their alleged neutrality in the face of atrocities committed by ICE, and to question whether "neutrality" in unequal power dynamics is truly neutral. I ask the Crimson to consider who in the Harvard Community they work for, and whose trust they want.

ICE has committed atrocities against the immigrant community and it's about time that the Crimson educates themselves.

I'm signing this petition because calling ICE for comment alerts them to the presence of undocumented students and workers on campus, and I don't want my students and colleagues put in harm's way for a soundbite.
