Good morning,
I thought I had better update you all on the iPad saga happening right now at Steyning Grammar School.
Why are parents prepared to pay £400 towards an iPad at a state funded school!
This is ludicrous...
We pay our taxes for #education and no other state funded #school would have the audacity to ask for #parents to fund their IT department.
I just don't get it..
I've asked a few #teachers how they would feel about preparing lessons with iPad's and they couldn't think of anything worse.
They cannot see how you can integrate it into the lessons and what the benefit actually is.
All I can see is teaching through YouTube type lessons and then you won't even need teacher's, all you will need is someone to manage the class like a security guard.
Why haven't the school shown how they can integrate this into the classroom first, shown us how it will work and benefit our children, then asked us to vote on whether they will work, or not?
Especially if we are paying for them.
I can't help feel like this is just a shiny present for the kids, and then we feel guilty if we let them down.
No parent wants their child to be the odd one out ♂️
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
One last point to make...
There is no proof that iPads work in the classroom, or they provide any benefit whatsoever!
And I have proof that they don't work...
You only have to look at the governments progress 8 report on half of Bohunt Education Trust schools, which are achieving below average grades!
The only thing propping Bohunt up, is their main school in Bohunt School - Liphook - and maybe one other.
As a MAT they can distribute funds as they see fit, which means they can divert funds that were meant for Steyning Grammar School Day and Boarding to bolster their successful schools, or even their failing schools, and given SGS's reputation for looking after Steyning Grammar School Rock Road... Well
Even the feeder schools to SGS remain in the dark as to what is going on.
St. Peter's C of E Primary School
Jolesfield CofE Primary School
Steyning C of E Primary School
Upper Beeding Primary School
Friends of Thakeham Primary School
And i'm sure there are more.
I've posted this on Facebook and you can comment here. I've tagged in Bohunt and if we can get enough people commenting, then maybe we can give Bohunt enough bad publicity that they will come to the conclusion that Steyning isn't right for them.
Academies hate bad publicity, it's not good for business.
