ArchBishop Benjamin Kwashi wrote What began like a retail killing on a daily basis since Thursday night has gone whole sale by yesterday, with over twenty dead in a single night. Once again “unknown gun men” and “unidentified gun men” and or “Fulani Herdsmen” on the rampage in Bassa areas of Plateau. We will hear the usual “we will leave no stone unturned”, “the Criminal’s will be brought to book”....forgetting that we are used to hearing these comments since 2001 with no encouraging results. Not too long ago a 1st class traditional king of a kingdom was killed, a village head killed, villages destroyed, farmlands destroyed the death song goes on.....where are the security operatives? Does anybody care about humanity? Is there hope for the poor of the land? What is most deplorable is the description of those who hate the truth! They will call this as they have done in the past for others ... It is a “Herdsmen and farmers clash”....sad!!! Farmers are sleeping in their houses at night and they get killed, their homes destroyed and their grain barns burnt yet enemies of human life call it a “clash”. We must decide as a people to find justice for everyone and establish truth for the sake of an enduring peace for the good of our land. We must change the template and narrative of dealing with glaring criminality. May God heal the wounds of our land, forgive the bloodshed, restore the broken hearted, cover our shame and forgive all our sins. The tears once again of yet another set of orphans, widows and the helpless is calling for justice...
