May 18, 2012 — I am so excited about the support for this petition.
This really is about communities having more say in the environmental livability of their neighborhoods, and breaking through the perception that Oregon's green reputation translates into rigorous regulatory standards. Oregon’s air toxics rules are the least stringent on the west coast, leaving public pressure as the only recourse to compel companies to reduce pollutants. Oregon DEQ routinely approves air pollution permits for facilities that are using outdated pollution control systems that put the public health at risk. Requiring any facility that receives the "right" to pollute the air in our communities to use modern and available pollution control technology is a common sense way we could immediately start improving Oregon's air quality.
I hope you will join us as we continue to work for clean safe air to breathe no matter where you live: email@example.com.
