No one should be proud of the controversial past the United States has had. America as a whole has been working very hard to abolish the memories that were created during Slavery. Amongst other reasons, the Civil War was a fight between the North and the South to end slavery. The South flew the Confederate flag, a red flag with a blue "X" from corner to corner and thirteen stars throughout the "X"

The state flag of Mississippi has a confederate flag in the top left corner. The Mississippi State Flag Referendum, in 2001, gave the people of Mississippi the right to choose to vote for the flag that represented the Confederacy, or change to a new flag where the confederate flag portion is replaced by twenty stars. (Mississippi being the 20th state admitted into the Union) 64% of Mississippi voters decided they wanted to keep the historic flag.

It is time to take this matter into our own hands because there is no way that a state flag should represent the darkest time in American history. It is a huge setback in the complete end of racism in our country.

Let's make what was a set back, into a step forward.

Change the state flag of Mississippi.
