Allow Kansans the choice to access physical therapy directly for treatment
Allow Kansans the choice to access physical therapy directly for treatment
The Issue
It’s your right to access physical therapy directly.
Did you know, that in Kansas, it is currently ILLEGAL to go directly to your Physical Therapist for treatment?
Kansas consumers seeking alternatives to prescription medication and surgery are choosing Physical Therapists for the prevention and treatment of health conditions affecting movement and function, only to find arbitrary, unnecessary, and costly access barriers standing in the way of treatment.
Currently, patients are required to see their physician even when the diagnosis is straightforward, like an ankle sprain or muscle strain. Physician practices may drive up costs and delay treatment unnecessarily by the use of unwarranted imaging, such as x-rays and MRI, in addition to the cost of the physician office visit.
Physical Therapists are more qualified and educated to treat movement and function related heath conditions than other professions, including massage therapists, exercise physiologists, and personal trainers, who currently do not require a physician referral and are not required to hold a Kansas professional license.
Kansas House Bill 2159 (HB 2159) will improve access to better, faster, and more cost effective care for individuals with arthritis, strokes, pediatric patients, people with sports injuries, joint and muscle problems, chronic pain, and other types of movement difficulties.
The time is now to allow Kansans to choose Physical Therapists directly for treatment so consumers can benefit from the real cost savings associated with conservative management of movement and function related health conditions.
Signing this petition will let Kansas lawmakers know that you want improved patient access, lower costs, and faster healthcare service.
