Prevent Mississippi Sand, LLC from Polluting Starved Rock State Park
This petition had 5 supporters
In January, the LaSalle County Board voted to permit the construction of a sand pit adjacent to Starved Rock State Park. The pit would be used to mine sand used in fracking, a potentially harmful means of extracting natural gas from the ground. It would also introduce air, noise, and light pollution to Starved Rock, the most beautiful and unique place in Illinois, disturbing its wildlife, destroying its natural integrity, and economically hindering the park by decreasing visitation. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has the power to stop this destructive and irresponsible sand pit by denying Mississippi Sand, LLC a mining permit. Please help prevent a natural disaster.
