Below is a a letter from Andres A. Rivera from his cell in James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, Delaware.
My name is Andre A. Rivera, SBI 144411. I am writing you today in hope that you would support me with my petition through your website, Change.org.
I am a 57 years old Hispanic from San Juan, Puerto Rico, a father of two, and a long time resident of Wilmington, Delaware. Presently, I am a state prisoner at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, located in Smyrna, Delaware, 19977. Sentence on November 3rd, 1995 to four(4) mandatory life sentences for second degree burglary which only carries a sentence of two (2) to ten (10) year sentences.
My petition to the outside world is in hope that some one would take an interest in my case and help me to obtain my freedom under a proportionality review....
I would also like to add at this time that on September 8, 2008, I submitted a complete package to the State's Pardon Board in hope that a commutation hearing would be held in regards to my sentence of November 3rd, 1995.
I was never called or have heard from the States Pardon Board concerning my petition.
It's in this respect that I write this petition to empower anyone, anywhere, to start, join, and support my life campaign to have my sentence commutated and go back home to my family and friends.
