Louise Shepherd started this petition to The Government

I’m wanting to appeal to the government to enforce tougher restrictions on alcohol advertising through supermarkets/shops and also on television.

In 2018/2019 there were 358,000 hospital admissions as a direct result of alcohol. In the Uk alone. *
14% of all traffic deaths are caused by alcohol.*

it is my belief that alcoholism is much higher than reported, it has affected me personally and many I know. From personal experience and speaking to others with alcohol issues, abstaining or reducing is made almost impossible by the constant bombardment of advertising of alcohol.

as with cigarettes, I believe we should not take away people’s free will or choice but we should also face up to the fact this is a big problem in society. If alcohol was not advertised in as many ways as it is, it is my belief it would make it easier for people to make a decision based on clarity rather than feeling continually brainwashed by the glamorisation of alcohol. Alcoholism has a broad spectrum and I believe this would help everyone to drink more responsibly and for those who choose to abstain due to addiction, to be able to do their daily routine without constant alcohol advertising.
