Single mother's wanting to better their lives and futures for their children by doing an access course to get on to a degree course at university should be given financial support. Originally I wanted to start university but did not have the right entry requirements. I decided to do an access to Higher Education course, which is for 9 months. This will allow me to apply for my university course. I was told income support would stop and I wouldn't be able to claim job seekers allowance even if I started a part time course.
I am a single parent of three young children. I claim child tax credit which is to supposed to support me and my three children as well as child benefits. I receive no other financial support whatsoever. This has been a very hard decision to make as it has left me and my girls living off food banks and the help of others. As a single parent I feel that we should be given the same opportunity as everybody else. I feel that single mothers who make the effort to better themselves should be given financial support. Once i complete my degree i will never need to rely on help from the government.
