Vincent O'Brien started this petition to The Government

I propose that Road Tax be put back directly to the up keep of roads.

Local roads are falling apart nationwide and local councils are spending a vast majority of their budgets paying out for damage to vehicles from potholes, whilst we watch millions of pounds being spent on "Smart Motorways' !. Local Roads are being 'patched' poorly because of funds, only to then need patching again within weeks, all at a cost to local councils. All the time thousands of vehicles are reporting damage that local councils must then pay for on top of the costs of road repairs. This just isn't right. Its non sensible. It has an impact on Community spending and travel nationwide.

The roads of England have never been the same since Road Tax was diverted away from purely roads and the damage to these roads is also causing major accidents, deaths etc. I live 100 yards from a single half mile stretch of road that currently has over 100 reports on potholes and numerous images of damaged cars. Some have been patched and within a week they are in the same condition. Its time to put money back to the roads with the increase in population and traffic. The problem will not go away, just get worse as the government continues to build houses and expand, with more lorries and heavy goods vehicles than I have ever seen in. my lifetime.

Please support this petition and lets make the Uk's Roads better for everyone and save local councils MILLIONS.
