Ban Alcohol in Tamil Nadu

As a teaching professional, I have been a witness to the loss of lives of some of my students due to drunk drivers and alcohol consumption. It is high time that we come together and save the future generation from the impacts of alcohol consumption. When I enquired a few fatherless students about the cause of their fathers' death, some stated that they lost them due to drunken driving, others stated that their fathers died due to kidney and liver failure. I was unable to console such students in any way and felt angry with the irresponsible dead men. As a homemaker, I am a witness to the sufferings of servant maids who independently struggle to run their family despite having their husbands, but drunkards. Their woes are inexplicable, ranging from physical and verbal abuse to tackling debts and bringing up their children. As a commuting citizen, during night times, I find that auto drivers are drunk and they drive rashly on the road and have no clear vision of what vehicles come in the opposite direction. Fortunately, I escaped two accidents. Often, in the evenings and during late night hours, I find drunk men loitering on the road and I fear for the safety of women and children. Not a single day passes without reading or hearing about the deaths caused due to drunk driving in TN. I am quite certain that the people of TN would wholeheartedly agree with my call for the ban of alcohol consumption. For more data on the effects of alcohol consumption, read the article, titled Thirakkade Moodu, in the Tamil magazine, Anandha Vikatan.
