The current restrictions for travellers who wish to enter Taiwan include a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test taken within two days (calendar days) prior to the flight schedule time and 10 days in a quarantine accommodation (a quarantine hotel or group quarantine facility where they plan to stay at their own expense).

This policy applies to anyone regardless of their vaccination status and special situations that require additional accommodation. Given the inflexible nature of this policy that causes undue inconvenience for both foreign and Taiwanese nationals, I petition to ask the Government to eliminate such restrictions, with particular regards to the PT-PCT test requirement.

Taiwan currently has a full vaccination rate of 76.4%, by globally recognized pharmaceuticals such as Pfizer, Moderna, and Astra Zeneca. In comparison to the US and the UK, the respective full vaccination rates of 65.4% and 73.9%, Taiwan has the capability to mitigate COVID-19 transmission while opening up the borders.

I have an example of how such a policy can be unreasonably inconvenient. A person who wishes to travel from Kingston, Ontario, Canada to Taipei, Taiwan will very likely be rejected to board the plane. This is because of the lack of direct flights between Toronto and Taipei, creating long and indirect itineraries that make it impossible to acquire a negative PC-PCR test prior to the flight to Taiwan.

This policy does not make any individual considerations and needs to be changed.
