Get Ontario to declare a Climate Emergency

On May 13th, the Ontario NDP tabled a motion to declare a climate emergency, which was sadly voted against. Climate change is not a partisan issue, but an issue that will affect each and every one of us for generations to come.

The Ford government has recently stated that “Ontario has done its part” in relation to climate change. This could not be further from the truth. Rather than protecting the environment, the Ontario government has spent large amounts of money on anti-carbon tax ads. They have cut Forest Ontario's million tree program. Their proposed budget for the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks were slashed 35 percent. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry were cut by 14 percent. Combined, the budgets cuts total $461 million.

Climate change costs are high.

The current annual average (2005-2015) loss from climate change is $1.2 billion a year. This is predicted to increase to $21-43 billion each year by 2050.

Sign the petition to increase pressure on the government to take further action to save our future. We are living in a climate emergency.
