Long term Southend West MP, Sir David Amess, was a champion of the borough and his dream was for Southend-on-Sea to be granted city status. Southend is by far the largest town in Essex and it would be a fitting tribute to Sir David to make his dream come true.

The man gave nearly a quarter of a century to serving Southend West and was brutally murdered whilst holding his surgery for the people of the town he loved so much.
