University students have been allowed back which was a big mistake from the beginning. Too many of them are now in quarantine and have lost their freedom. It’s no better than being in a very expensive prison on top of not being able to get what their are paying for when it comes to one to one lessons. They unfortunately have no escape route because of their house/apartment rental leasing contract.

My son is having to pay £6000 (There are 7 of them sharing the house so that’s the extortionate amount of £42,000 going to the landlord’s pocket) for the year just to rent a room and share communal space, on top of university fees and everything else!

He doesn’t understand why he should be spending so much money if most of the time he is in his bedroom studying online ! He might as well be home and save money, it’s outrageous!!

The government need to step in and should allow students to choose to stay or go back home to study online for the time being until things are back to some kind of normality and be released from any type of leasing contract (housing or appartement).

They should compensate University and landlords for their loss the same way they have helped  companies since the lockdown has happened.

This situation is beyond ridiculous and unacceptable! Most students can already not afford the high cost of studying away from home, they are having now to do most of it online, on top of being trapped in a small space and not being able to socialise. Let’s not forget to mention the financial costs and possible health issues because of Covid. This is a recipe for disaster, it will affect their mental wellbeing in the long run and things are only going to get tougher for them for weeks to come!
