Gavin Williamson along with the government are planning to consult head teachers on how to ban phones while in school premises.

This is a problem - phones are becoming a major part in lesson time and they are also playing a huge part in social time.

A lot of class work and homework is put online on resources such as Google Classroom, which gives easy access to assignments and teachers can communicate with students - they can also take attendance and give grades for tests and homework through these online apps - not only is this good for the environment, this can also make more time for students to do their work rather than waiting for teachers to grade their assignments and such in class. This makes learning time more progressive and students can learn more in the period of time given.

Removing phones from learning will also make understanding the children’s knowledge and giving them feedback will be a lot more difficult. Teachers gain student feedback through these smartphone apps using polls and discussion forums and can also see how well a student understands a topic.

Phones are also how children socialise now - it is their way of communication and taking that away is like taking how they enjoy life away.

‘If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.’

Banning phones is also unsafe - children need to be able to contact their parents and in case of emergencies they should be able to speak to them.

Therefore as a result of all of this - DO NOT BAN PHONES - IT IS NOT EFFECTIVE AND WILL SIMPLY WORSEN LEARNING FOR THE STUDENTS.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO CONTINUE HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION!
