Nicole Gilmour started this petition to The Government

After attending the Hyde park (Leeds) firework display on November 5th, which was a fantastic display for all, it was ruined as I was disgusted to wake up and read that a blind lady and her guide dog had been having fireworks directly aimed at them by some members of the public who thought it would be funny. Not only am I disgusted by this but I am confused as to why people like this are being trusted with what are ultimately explosives. This was not the only report of missuse of fireworks I had heard around the city leading up to bonfire night. Not only are they dangerous, but they are also extremely frightening to animals and I just don’t see it necessary that the general public should have to put on their own displays when there are perfectly fantastic displays put on by many organisations and councils. By more people attending planned, safe firework events we will not only be cutting down on the amount of noise scaring animals but also on fatal injuries and pollution. I personally absolutely love bonfire night and would hate to see the fun taken away from it, but I don’t see any fun in harming helpless people and animals. I think it should be monitored better by only licensed organisations, such as hotels and cricket clubs etc, being able to purchase fireworks.
