Increasing the Refugee Quota NZ

Increasing the Refugee Quota NZ
The world is facing the most displacement since World War Two, when the legal framework for recognising people as refugees was established. More than 60 million are displaced with 20 million of those as refugees, displaced and outside their country of origin. New Zealand currently has a total of 1,500 refugee placements in the country as of June 2020. This is a positive that New Zealand is playing their part in the issue of welcoming refugees into our society, however, 1,500 is only a small fraction of the amount of people affected by the problem.
Our campaign of increasing the Refugee Quota, will help to achieve social justice by providing equal opportunities and privileges for refugees who are currently living in unpleasant situations around the world. Refugees are forced to leave their country because of war, persecution, discrimination, racism and oppression. By welcoming them into New Zealand, they are introduced into the participation of a society that allows them to have equal economic, political and social rights. Providing each refugee with freedom and basic human rights that every person should have so they are an equal member of society. Only half of New Zealanders live in a region where refugees are resettled. The other half has no opportunity to help, so as a nation we can do more.
