Homelessness in Australia is a social issue concerning the number of people in Australia that are considered to be homeless. There are no internationally agreed-upon definitions of homelessness, making it difficult to compare levels of homelessness across countries as it varies all around the world due to the levels of poverty.

In Australia, on any given night, there are 44,000 children and young people without a place they can call home. Sadly, this includes almost 18,000 boys and girls under the age of 12. Young children who are without a stable place to play, learn, grow and sleep. These children have not become homeless by choice but by unfortunate circumstances that have come to affect them throughout their life.

Causes of homelessness among youth fall into three inter-related categories: family problems, economic problems, and residential instability. Many homeless youths leave home after years of physical and sexual abuse, strained relationships, addiction of a family member, and parental neglect.

The Government and support of the environment are the lead wheels in the change of homelessness and there is a national goal to half homelessness in the country by 2030.

We need your help to change this.
