A petition to encourage the idea of universal healthcare in Ireland
A petition to encourage the idea of universal healthcare in Ireland
Why this petition matters
In Ireland, those from lower income households are subjected to an unfair healthcare system. Those who can afford private heath insurance gain access to appointments with specialists, diagnostic tests and treatment much faster than those who cannot afford it. The vastly different waiting times gives rise to a major health equity issue. People with private health insurance get prioritised because the healthcare system gains more money by treating them first.
Maire Devine from Sinn Fein, Tina McVeigh from people before profit, and Conor Reddy, the chair of the campaign for an All Ireland NHS, are all involved in campaigns to get rid of our two-tiered system. The objective of their campaign to highlight the issues of our healthcare system. By doing this they hope to be able to demand changes that would improve the quality and accessibility of the public health system
