Rona Congram started this petition to The Government

When I was growing up we had organised firework displays. I loved going to the local park and watching as the fireworks went up. It was something we looked forward to every year. A chance to enjoy an evening out, wrapped up warm with our friends and family. We had sparklers and usually a hotdog or burger on the way home. Every precaution was taken to maintain safety and everyone enjoyed the displays. Now, the excitement has gone and dread sets in. People can buy their own fireworks for a few pounds from their local supermarket or shop.  Fireworks are set off at any time of year in peoples gardens and our open spaces. Wildlife are injured or killed and our own pets are terrified. There is no way of knowing when these things are going to be set off so no chance of preparing our pets. Now, we hear that fireworks are being used to threaten our emergency services and prevent or delay them from doing their jobs. This is unacceptable to me. I want our government to ban the sale of fireworks to the general public and return to organised displays only. This will hopefully prevent people using them as a threat and also help keep our children and pets safe. Fireworks are dangerous in the wrong hands and should not be available outside of organised displays. Too many are let off irresponsibly at all times of the day and evening, in our parks where children play, outside shops even. This must be stopped
