Abolish the stoppage of Benefits (DLA, Housing Benefit, ESA) for Claimants who have spent 28 days or more in an NHS hospital. Stop penalising the most vulnerable members of society by adding a financial burden during a health crisis.
The DWP stops claimants' Benefits, including DLA, Housing Benefit, PIP, AA and part of ESA, once they have spent 28 days or more in an NHS Hospital. The benefits of those patients in a private hospital are not affected. So, in effect these very ill patients are made to pay for their NHS treatment. Meanwhile, they may have lost their rented homes because Housing Benefit ceased. Once Benefit payments are stopped, Standing Orders and Direct Debits for Gas, Electricity and telephone standing charges, Rent, Water rates, Mobile phone contract payments, TV licence, pet costs, household insurance, Council Tax, life insurance, Funeral Plans etc, will not be honoured by the Banks and bank charges will accrue. How can people in hospital, often with life-threatening illnesses, be expected to cope with such a financial crisis? How can the Government consider this rule to be fair and moral in a civilised society? It's a vicious attack on the most ill, often poorest and most vulnerable people and MUST STOP NOW! I have witnessed much suffering of fellow patients in hospital and feel that I must champion this cause for those who do not have a voice. Please add your voice to mine so we can be heard by the Government, Thank you.
