Why it’s important for us to go back to virtual
Picture this: you go to school and you get COVID. It could spread to people who are older in your family and the symptoms could be more severe for them, so sending kids to school is basically a carrier for Covid to spread more to families who have jobs and to elderly who could be at risk of death.
Over the course of the past few days, the number of covid cases have been rising drastically. The covid positivity rate went from 3% to 24% in the span of a a few weeks. In one single day, there were 14,000 people in Maryland who reported to have covid. However, the board of education and school system aren’t taking it seriously. Just because students don’t tend to get the severe symptoms of covid, doesn’t mean no one in their family can. There are numerous extended family houses, including people with grandparents, uncles, and aunts. The child could be a possible carrier for covid and could put their family members at risk.
At the beginning of this school year, Covid was under control and opening schools didn’t really cause an outbreak. Over time, everyone calmed down and believed that the pandemic was over. However, because there are some careless students in our schools, no one took it seriously anymore. And this caused the outbreak that is here today. I believe we should go back to online school temporarily so that the situation of covid can go down and less people get sick. Then, in the spring we can try going in person. But for the time being, to stop this spread, we need to go virtual or else things are never going to get better and the covid situation will keep going in the same never-ending cycle. The governor and the board of education should take strict action to stop this spread of covid. If we want to get to “normal” life, then this step is extremely important.
