  • I, Ashanti Disu, Ella Szanyi, Favor Orji and Folasade brown and sick and tired of listening to the same names. We are always hearing about Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and MLK. We are tired of learning about the same three people every February. Yes, they did astonishing things, but many have to. We need to be educated on more things that minorities have invented. We never are taught about who invented the beauty blender, gun powder, the kite, traffic light, and home security system. We aren’t even taught about what Hispanics, Asians, Middle Easterners, and many more POC have contributed to the world. We shouldn’t have to join clubs to learn about our history and the inventions our people have made. Why do we learn about Christopher Columbus early, yet we learn about our people in high school? Why was Sacajawea the only native taught? Why do we need to wait until we get into high school to learn about our people? Explain to us, why you don’t hesitateto teach us about a white man at an early age yet push learning about our people until high school.  We can no longer sit through whitewashed history lessons! We can no longer read whitewashed history books! We need to be taught about our people! Our people need to be included in history books! Our people need to be a part of the school standards!
