Usman Muhd started this petition to THE GENERAL MEDICAL COUNCIL (GMC)

We are calling on GMC to open up more PLAB ONE spaces for candidates who have met their English exams requirements, in the Africa sub-region.

This is due to many reasons; chances to book for the exams became slimmer and difficult since the covid-19 outbreak and pandemic. However, it is worthy to note that most countries in Africa have had low incidence and mortalities from the disease. Therefore, abiding by disease protocols should not be otherwise more rigid with African countries, than it is, with others.

Also, it is worthy of note that most candidates that passed their English exams this year, would have to wait till next year, before having an opportunity to book for the exam. This makes it even more depressing, as passing the English exam in the first place is not easy, coupled with a near expiration date.

Even at that, having an opportunity to book for the exam next year is not an assurance to be successfully booked, as the competition to secure a space has become increasingly competitive, leaving those who are not lucky, have their English exams expiring.

Why we accept this is absolutely no fault of GMC, as life preservation is the first and most important instinct, we believe that such experiences faced by prospecting candidates can be solved by opening up more exam centers and even increasing the exam fees to curb all expenses that may be faced by GMC, as some candidates have had to travel to far countries, risking their lives and money, just to write the exams.
