The Florida Education System: Do NOT cut funding for Magnet School transportation!

Alot of families including my own are going to be affected by the upcoming budget cuts. My daughter as well as thousands of other students have worked too hard to get into one of the top 10 highschools in the U.S only to have it ripped away from them due to lack of funding for transportation. If we love and want the best for our children, we need to step up! These kids are our future and we need to stand firm and make sure they become outstanding adults. My daughter is a straight A high honor student and has worked very hard to get where she is in her education. I am proud of her success thus far and it breaks my heart to know she as well as so many other children may not be able to get the education they deserve and have earned due to hard work. Many other cuts are on the table including employee furlough, cuts to art, music and P.E, education programs and staff reduction. Other schools will have transportation but because the Magnet program is an elective, funding is not available. The Duval County Public Schools are $91M in debt. The funding will be cut by Tallahassee.  Per W.C Gentry, the chairman for the School Board, legislature should be budgeting roughly $8,300.00 per child, as of this year, the budget is $6,300.00 per child. This is unacceptable. I don't want to see any of these cuts but transportation should not be one of them just because Magnet schools are "elective" These children have worked way too hard to be denied an education.
