FCANZ to remove all references to Aotearoa
Why this petition matters

To be Anglican in these islands demands a deep and abiding commitment to kaupapa tikanga rua and tangata whenua. In Aotearoa that commitment is embodied in the office of Te Pihopa o Aotearoa.
The maths is simple if you are in impaired communion with the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia then you are in impaired communion with the Bishop of Aotearoa too. That impairment makes any attempt at real and deep commitment to Maori as Tangata Whenua impossible.
The establishment of FCANZ and the election (and ensuing consecration of an FCANZ bishop) in Aotearoa is an act of colonisation and a breach of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We cannot and should not accept this breach.
FCANZ variously refer to themselves as the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans New Zealand and also the Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans Aotearoa New Zealand and also Church of Confessing Anglicans Aotearoa New Zealand.
We, the indigenous Anglicans of Aotearoa call upon FCANZ to remove all references to Aotearoa from their name and any other associated identifiers, publicity, titles, PR, etc.
Aotearoa in the Anglican context isn't simply a translation of "New Zealand" but rather is a symbol of tino rangatiratanga and mana that rests solely with the Bishop of Aotearoa and Māori Anglicans in New Zealand.
To co-opt and appropriate the word "Aotearoa" in an Anglican context is an act of aggressive colonisation and cannot be allowed.
